The culprits have been caught and the treasure has been found. Over $100,000 in stolen bourbon has been recovered and nine people have been charged in the case of the stolen Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon, according to the Wall Streat Journal. And, all the bourbon fanatics of the world rejoiced in unison like a choir of an inner-city, mega-church early on a Sunday morning. Thankfully, stupid people don’t just get smart. If the culprits would have laid-low after the Pappy heist they may never have been caught. But, as they say, “stupid is as stupid does.” And, these guys were stupid enough to steal barrels of Wild Turkey. Barrels! The biggest questions is what does this mean now? Well, for one, I hope that Buffalo Trace and the Van Winkle family decided to do something special for the bourbon fans of the world with the recaptured bourbon. A massive auction to support a cool charity. An allocation specifically for those who have bourbon blogs (tongue-in-cheek…maybe). I really don’t know and I really don’t care what they do I just want it to be a cool idea in the end.
I also hope distilleries figure out how to protect their stashes a little better. It is hard enough for the average bourbon lover to get our hands on the stuff.
Ultimately, I am glad to see the punks brought to justice. It truly is one giant leap for bourbon fans. Tipple on!
